Eyes That See

This post is a little different. It’s the fruit of my personal story of healing and transformation. I hope you like it and it inspires you!

Life doesn’t always go the way we want no matter how spiritual you are. Being spiritual doesn’t eliminate problems, loss, or tragedy, no matter how much we pray. we have to live life on God’s terms. That means accepting them and God to walk through problems, loss, and tragedy.

If you're like me, I was taught that things are either good or bad and right or wrong.

Worse yet, we mistakenly think by turning to God He will minimize or even eliminate all of life’s unpleasantness. God might change our circumstances. But He may also want to change us by using the circumstances we face. Logically I knew God uses it all for my good. Everything that happens is intended to be an opportunity for transformation. But instead, I followed the "How to do Christianity" model and tried to pray those opportunities away. This overarching concept was what I learned from nearly every sermon, book, and conference. If things didn't work out the way I had believed they should, I was left to grapple with the idea I didn't do x,y, and z, right, and a sense of failure. Maybe, this has been your experience too.

But, I was missing something key. Key scriptures on how God will be with us.

  • Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV) The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

  • Hebrews 13:5 (NIV) “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Verses like these have become a real transformational shift in the way I understand and relate to God. In truth, they are now life verses. This shift has allowed me to live with my eyes and heart open to see that all of life is an invitation! All we need are eyes that see 👀

We have a choice. We can settle for the certainty that comes with formulas, striving, and how-tos. Or we can make room for mystery. Mystery? Yes, finding God in hard times and the way he is with us is a mystery. Having eyes to see what He is working in us is a game changer because It develops the interior life.

Reflect on your own story

Ask yourself and God, What part of my heart are you trying to capture? It's possible God is evangelizing a part of your heart that remains cloaked in darkness.

It's also possible that he's doing something completely new.

Think back on prayers you've prayed in the last several months. It just may be that God is answering these prayers in ways you haven't perceived.

Are you interested in living life as an invitation? Does this make you think? Does it speak to something deep inside? Then let's talk. Together we can unpack the false beliefs that accompany the certainty messages of Christianity. I’d love to talk with you. Really!
